On this page, we'll describe some of the events leading up to our baby's birth. Although there are 10
months (yes, TEN months) to prepare, the time is going fast and we are now ramping up to get the nursery ready.
The Day We Found Out About Baby Bonds...
First, we'd like to share a little about the day we found out that we were expecting! Laura: It
was the end of March and I had been counting down to "testing day". I had been "charting" which is a Trying to Conceive
method that includes taking my basil cell body temperature daily. High temperatures are a good thing when Trying to
Conceive, so the morning that I was going to test I decided to wait to see what my temperature was telling me. If my
temperature was low, I would wait to test. If it were high, I would go for it. Well, upon waking, my temperature
was higher than it had ever been...so I broke out the test. Mind you, it was 6 AM and Jay had no clue what I was doing
(he just hoped that my days of temperature taking and beeping thermometers would end soon!)
Anyway, the test was almost immediately positive and I threw my hand over my mouth and starting crying in disbelief.
After 6+ months of trying, I thought I would never see that second line!! I burst back into the bedroom hysterically
crying and asked Jay to look at the test to tell me if there was really a second line!! He was completely
rattled and thought I was crying because I thought we were being burglarized!! Once he turned the light on, he
figured out what was going on and asked me "Are you pregnant?!" and I said "I think so!!!!" After big hugs and lots
more crying (on my part!), the reality set in for both of us. We were just thrilled! That test, followed by about a
dozen others and a trip to the doctor, confirmed that indeed, I was pregnant and that we were on our way to bringing a new
life into this world....
Surprise...it's a Baby Shower!!!
I had a surprise Baby Shower on Sunday, August 8th at The Breakers in Spring Lake, NJ ( www.breakershotel.com)! I was actually up in NJ for my friend's Bridal Shower and Bachelorette Party last weekend and was completely surprised
when we went for brunch on Sunday and it turned out to be my Baby Shower! My wonderful friend Heather and her sister
Devon organized and hosted. I was so touched and surprised that I actually started to SOB! I was really in
shock to see my friend Jenn who flew in from Chicago just weeks before her wedding to attend (and I only got to see her for
2 hours!!)

her hard work in planning this event and in keeping it all a big SECRET and Jenn for flying in from Chicago during a very
hectic time to celebrate with me!!

The Baby Shower - Atlanta
Laura: My baby shower was held on Sunday, September 26th at the Horseradish Grill in Atlanta, GA.
We had a private room below the restaurant that was charming and perfect. I'm so lucky to have such wonderful friends
and family who planned and hosted this event for me and our lucky baby girl.
Here I'll share a few details about the shower....they had an adorable poem that was written for the guests from the
baby's perspective...welcoming guests and thanking them. This was placed at each place setting. The favors
were pink colored M&M's in personalized tins with the date and "Laura's Baby Shower". We played a game where everyone
had to taste different baby food and then guess what it was. I was REALLY bad at this surprisingly. Laughing.
The winner got a prize - a photo album maybe? The food was amazing. We also played Baby Shower Bingo which is
always a good way to keep people interested when opening gifts!!
My favorite part was the "piggy" bank (It was really a bunny). Paige and Kara had everyone take a coin out of a
bag at the beginning when we first sat down. Then after we had our fried green tomatos, they gave me a gift which was
a silver bunny bank. They passed the bank around and asked everyone to say how they know me and then make a wish for
the baby and drop the coin in the bank. Let's just say there were lots of tears and it was incredibly sweet and touching.
I am so grateful to have such wonderful friends and family. I thank everyone for their kind words and wishes and all
the wonderful gifts!

The Baby's Room
We have the bedding and all the furniture! The fabrics for the bedding and window treatement are a pink and
green toile, a pink polka dot, and a pink, cream and green stripe. The bedding includes the crib bumpers, crib sheet,
crib skirt, a blanket, throw pillows for the glider/decoration and window treatments. The company is
Javis Davis ( www.javisdavis.com) and the collection is "Monticello".
We painted the walls green (well, JAY painted the walls green) and we love it!
Here it is! This also shows the crib...and below - MY CRAFTS!!!!!

Above you can see the crafts that I have been working on - I made the nightlight and 2 lampshades in fabric that matches
the bedding. Below you can see the A, B, C, 1, 2, 3 wall hangings that I painted. We will hang those with ribbon
as soon as we get the room figured out!
Also - below that - look at all that stuff!!

The Nursery Furniture
We ordered the crib, a dresser/changing table combo and a floor book case from Morigeau - a Canadian company. They
told us that the furniture would not be ready until end of September, but it has already arrived! We are waiting until
Salvation Army comes to take the existing furniture out of the room and then we will have the baby furniture delivered.
The furntiture is all white and should go well with our white / pink / green theme. Here you can see a picture
of the changing table / dresser combo (we did not get the hutch) and the crib...but it will all be in white!!

Birthing Classes
We have registered for the following four classes to help us in preparing for our
new baby girl. We also have a tour of the hospital scheduled so that we can get an inside look at the place where
she will first come into the world!
Childbirth Preparation
To prepare for labor and delivery
Baby Essentials
Diapering, holding, bathing, feeding, decision making etc.
Breastfeeding for Couples
Benefits, knowledge & skill to succeed, ideas for partner support
Infant CPR
CPR, choking management, safety measures
"Other" Stuff
We have just sent in our pre-registration forms to the hospital. We are delivering at Northside Hospital ( www.northside.com) in Atlanta, which delivers more babies than any other community hospital in the country! Let's just say that
they don't call it "The Baby Factory" for nothing!! I'm pretty sure with this track record that we will be in good hands.
